How to improve operations at your gym

In Bahrain and the GCC many of us choose to exercise in gyms due to climatic conditions or for the sense of community and shared goals. Occasionally exercise devotees from the region will venture onto the running track or the playing field, but in this part of the world, the gym is where many of us fulfil our exercise needs. Gym owners and operators can do a number of things to ensure that their gyms run smoothly and that patrons enjoy their workouts. Here are five ways to improve operations at your gym.

1. Listen to your customers.
Exercise junkies spend hours at the gym and the most dedicated fitness fanatics may spend more than ten hours a week on the premises. People that spend so much time at your gym are bound to notice innumerable ways to improve the way it operates, so keep an eye on reviews and social media comments – and take them seriously!

2. Make sure the premises is hygienic and safe.
This should be obvious to anyone, especially in a post-Covid world in which everyone is more conscious of germs and infections. All areas of the gym should be cleaned and disinfected regularly, the space should be well-ventilated and staff and customers should be encouraged to regularly use hand sanitizer.

3. Keep abreast of technology.

Like all areas of life, exercise is increasingly digitised and wearable tech is a multi- billion-dollar industry. Bahrain and the GCC are highly tech-adapted and therefore it’s important to make sure that your gym is up to speed. No one’s saying that you need to update all of your gym equipment so that customers can link their wearable tech to it – but you can do simple things like making sure that your business is presented correctly on Google and social media as well as ensuring that you have a strong Wi-Fi connection on the premises.

4. Reach out to your community.
All businesses with a physical presence should be active in the communities that they serve and this is true of gyms as well. Furthermore, most exercise enthusiasts want to attend gyms near to them, so you should view those in the local community as prospective clients.

5. Identify and implement trends.

Trends, fads, fashions – whatever you want to call them are important. Younger generations are especially dedicated to following the latest trends in exercise and diet. Publish information about the latest keto craze or workout routine on your socials and on your website to show that your organisation is modern and forward- looking.
